By CHRIS UMPIERRE News Press Sports Writer In a matter of two days, Mike Christensen’s life took two significant turns. On Saturday, he learned his wife, Sarah, was pregnant. Then Sunday, New Britain, the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A affiliate, released Christensen, a former Fort Myers Miracle player and Fort Myers High School graduate. “You’ve got to take the good with the bad,” said Christensen, who plans to join an independent team soon. “Sometimes when something like (his wife’s pregnancy) happens, you realize how wonderful a thing like that is. “It puts everything into perspective.” Christensen, 26, was the Miracle’s Opening Day third baseman. He was promoted to New Britain on April 30. He hit .133 (2-for-15) in six games for the Rock Cats. Christensen said this season, his sixth in minor-league baseball, might be his last. Before joining the Twins organization, he played five seasons in the Anaheim Angels’ farm system. “This might be my last year, but I’m going to finish out the year; that’s for sure,” Christensen said. He’s currently looking at several independent teams. Christensen declined to say which ones. Christensen is a career .254 hitter, with 54 home runs and 296 RBI in 560 games. In other Miracle news, right-hander reliever Victor Moreno was promoted to New Britain on Sunday. The 23-year-old was productive for the Miracle, tallying a 3-1 record and a 2.75 ERA in 19.2 innings.
