Mauer, Durbin picked to play in Future's All-Star Game

Eight days after playing in the Florida State League All-Star Game for the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium, Joe Mauer and J.D. Durbin were picked to play in the Future's All-Star Game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago on July 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Mauer hit .335 with one home run and 44 RBI with the Miracle. He threw out nearly 60 percent of base stealers and was the starting catcher for the Western Division at the Florida State League All-Star Game. He was in the top five in hits, on-base percentage and batting average before he was called up to Double-A New Britain. Mauer, the number one overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2001, is a resident of Fort Myers and had a 2003 Florida State League best 19 game hitting streak.

Durbin was 9-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 14 games. In 87.1 innings pitched he struck out 69. While with the Miracle he was in the top five in innings pitched and strikeouts. He was the starting pitcher for the Western Division team in the All-Star Game.

Durbin was the second pick in the second round by the Minnesota Twins in 2000. The 21-year-old right-hander has gone 16-6 in his three year career with a 2.93 ERA. In 196.2 career innings he has struck out 206.

There have been 76 Futures alumni that have reached the show and all eyes will be on Mauer during the game. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with its 30 clubs and Baseball America, selected the 25-man roster for each team.

In other Miracle news, leadoff hitter James Tomlin was named the FSL Batter of the Week for the week of June 16-22. Tomlin hit .471 (8-17) with four RBIs. In four games he had a double and two stolen bases while scoring five runs. He had an on-base percentage of .526 and a slugging percentage of .529.

During the 2003 season, Tomlin is hitting .321 with 24 RBI. In 68 games he has scored 55 runs while swiping 17 bases. He is first in the FSL in runs scored, tied for first in hits (86) and fifth in batting average.
