Special to The News-Press The Fort Myers Miracle, needing to replace the injured Brett Tamburrino and Juan Velazquez, added right-handed pitcher Eric Lohse and second baseman Kaulana Kuhaulua from Class A Quad City of the Midwest League. The 23-year-old Lohse was 6-5 with a 3.32 ERA and one save in 28 games. In sixty-two innings pitched, he walked 15 and struck out 51 while opponents hit .278 against him. Lohse, a 40th-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2001, is a career 9-9 pitcher with a 3.76 ERA in 32 games. Eric’s brother Kyle, a Miracle alumnus, is a pitcher for the Twins. Kuhaulua was a 12th-round pick of the Twins in 2001. This season at Quad City he was hitting .230 with one home run and 21 RBI in 57 games. In 194 at-bats, the 23-year-old had 12 doubles and 24 runs scored. Velazquez is on the disable list after dislocating his finger July 9 and Tamburrino has a spiral fracture in his left hand on a stolen-base attempt. The Miracle roster stands at 24 players, one shy of the maximum allowed.
